EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES POLICY

Action Acton's Statement of Intent

Action Acton is committed to providing equal opportunities in employment and in the service provided to the community. We will develop an Action Plan to ensure that this policy is implemented, monitored and evaluated.

Action Acton's Equal Opportunity Standard

  • Action Acton accepts that in society certain groups and individuals are discriminated against and, as an employer and a provider of a service to the community, we are committed to taking positive steps to remedy this situation.
  • Action Acton is striving towards being an Equal Opportunity employer and will seek to ensure that no job applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment than another on the grounds of gender, colour, disability, race, nationality, ethnic, regional or national origins, age (up to normal retirement), marital status, trade union activity, political or religious belief, class or sexual orientation or of having dependants.
  • Action Acton will aim to make all reasonable adjustments to accommodate disabled applicants or members of staff. The individual and specialized advisors will be consulted before any adjustment is considered.
  • Action Acton recognises the need to provide an equal service to all members of the public.
  • Action Acton is committed to complying with the requirements of legislation against discrimination and related victimisation that is summarised in Action Acton's Code of Practice.
  • Action Acton recognises that discrimination may occur in areas at present not fully covered by the legislation.
  • Action Acton recognises that discrimination may be direct or indirect and aims to ensure that this policy covers both.
  • Action Acton will review and monitor the implementation of the policy and take action as necessary.
  • Action Acton is committed to providing appropriate and relevant training in equal opportunities for staff involved in staff selection and service delivery, the timing of which is subject to the availability of resources.
  • An obligation to abide by the Equal Opportunities Code of Practice is a contractual requirement.
  • It is the individual responsibility of every employee to ensure that this policy is applied in practice, both in employment and in serving the community. A special responsibility falls on those who have staff management, recruitment and personnel management responsibilities.
  • The Chief Executive has responsibility for equal opportunities in both employment and service delivery and will be responsible for monitoring equal opportunities in employment matters. The responsibility to abide by Action Acton's Equal Opportunities Policy will be included in every job description.
